Mahealani and the Lunar Eclipse

The night was cool. We waited for Mahina inside the Subaru parked where we were last month, expecting her to rise slightly more east this month.

But we were mistaken. Momona nui (big and fat) Mahealani rose at the far edge (right-hand facing the moonrise) of the trees.
To see her fullness coming into sight we had to get out from the warmth of the car, walk across the lawn and there!
She was awesome and golden.
The frogs in the wetlands across the highway were singing love songs to each other and Mahealani. We were blessed with the moment of bigness. Our friend Jude told us stories of watching the Lunar Eclipse earlier in the morning (between 4 and 5 am). The moon was red. The sky darkened. A ring of stars surrounded the Hoku/Mahealani Moon. And then, the clouds came because they love her, too.
This was Mahealani last month.

For a perspective of the changing position of moonrise compare the table edge in the lower left-hand corner here with the table pictured in the first shot above.
Mahalo e Mahealani, Mahina momona nui.
